Chapter 1

There Is One Truth

Billions of people have lived throughout human history, each with their own personality, circumstances, experiences, and understanding of life. Yet beneath these differences, we share the same fundamental human nature.

Our bodies function according to the same biological principles. We experience hunger, exhaustion, pleasure, pain, love, fear, sorrow, and joy in fundamentally the same ways. We seek belonging, meaning, security, and fulfillment. Although the circumstances that produce these experiences differ, the underlying human condition remains remarkably consistent.

Just as the physical world operates according to laws that apply to everyone, whether or not we understand or believe in them, human life operates according to an underlying order.

There is one truth about who we are. Our opinions, experiences, cultures, and beliefs do not change that truth. They only influence how clearly we recognize it and whether we live according to it.

We are free to believe countless different things, but our freedom to believe something does not make it true.

When we live in accordance with the order for which the human organism was created, peace, joy, love, and goodness become our natural, effortless experience of everyday life.
